Antje Blumenstein
Antje Blumenstein's work is divided into series and groups of works in which, in addition to a wide variety of materials and techniques, various topics and questions are dealt with. With her current works, Antje Blumenstein focuses on the basic elements of abstract art: lines, surfaces and colors, dominated by reduction and clear formal composition.
The works from her “lines B” series each consist of four Plexiglas panels in two different colors and subtly milled lines, placed a few centimeters apart. When you approach the fluorescent wall works, two of the artist's statements become obvious: that the works also contain the reflection of the viewer in the colored surfaces and that the closer you get to the works, the more space is created.
The reflection in the reflection, the interaction of the lines, the gradations of the color shades and the effect of the radiation on the wall testify to her questioning of surface, space and line.
In her works made of paper, reduction and a clear formal composition dominate. In the group of white paper works “Five Lines”, five lines can always be seen, which result from folds and lines applied with a pencil. Spatiality is created here by the play of light and shadow on the relief-like surfaces.
After studying graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, she studied painting and graphics at the HfBK Dresden as a master student with Prof. Eberhard Bosslet.
