ANGELA GLAJCAR

Monumental in-situ installation DREAMCATCHER

Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, Krems, Austria

25. March 2023 til 14. January 2024

Opening 24. March, 6 pm

For around two decades, Angela Glajcar (*1970) has enriched the international art world with her extraordinary objects and installations made of paper. The German artist was trained as a sculptor and, after beginnings in the field of wood and metal sculpture, discovered the fragile material of paper for herself. With the special nature of this material and its inherent aesthetics, Glajcar creates both small-format works and fascinating monumental spatial installations full of poetry. For the light-flooded exhibition space on the ground floor of the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, Glajcar has developed a walk-in work of art in which she combines wafer-thin paper with delicate glass fabric. The installation gains its special tension from the combination of these two different materials and their contrasting processing methods. The light paper webs are individually torn and staggered by hand. The artist drapes the cloth-like fabric generously and subtly changes it with nail scissors and tweezers. Through layering and curving, she achieves three-dimensional structures that evoke a variety of associations. With this site-specific installation, the award-winning artist refers to both the location and the architecture of the museum and creates a sensual experience that encourages visitors to linger and daydream. In the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, Glajcar is realising her largest in-situ work to date, which is also her first museum exhibition in Austria.
