Mats Bergquist
In his monochrome works Mats Bergquist is using old icon technique with a contemporary language and creates a unique space of silence. His objects are made in a thorough and elaborate process of encaustic - cut wood with a coating of pigments and wax on rough canvas and many layers of chalk, which he meticulously sands before putting them on again. The light is appealingly reflected in the predominantly black and white squares and rectangles.
Born 1960 in Stockholm. Lives and works in Lövestad, South Sweden.
