Isabelle Borges
Isabelle Borges' (*1966 in Salvador, Brazil) non-representational paintings, murals, collages and installations find their origins in her photographic studies of nature and establish a relationship both to the Neo-Concretists from Brazil and to the representatives of the European and New York schools of the 1950s and 1960s. Her work is thus shaped by the artistic influence of two continents - she studied in Rio de Janeiro at the Escola de Artes Visuais, among others with Beatriz Milhazes, and then at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf with Prof. Christian Megert, who was a major influence on the international group ZERO. Unlike the European Constructivists, however, Borges is not concerned with the geometry of pure form without a connection to nature and a possible illusionary space. She likes to be inspired by chance, by structures she finds in the visible environment. In doing so, the artist composes a permanent interplay of flatness and depicted spatiality.
