Hansjörg Schneider
With the help of his cutting and tearing technique, Hansjörg Schneider (*1960) creates different spatial effects, a feeling for foreground and background emerges. He works on the paper "drawing-like" with cutters, creating multiple openwork surfaces with grid-like structures that become translucent structures and expansive installations.
Since 2022, his preference for constructive structures has led the artist to three-dimensional paper objects, with which he makes light sculptures with net-like structures that form geometric shaped bodies out of one piece, in addition to paper cuts and reliefs.
The works from the series “Quicksilver Messenger Service” look like precious miniatures against their black background and their silver shimmer and at the same time testify to the great wit of the artist, since they were made from chewing gum paper, as you can easily see from the jagged edges. It was created due to the pandemic, because the artist had set himself the task of producing such a work every day during the lockdown.
He studied fine arts at the Muthesiusschule Kiel, then English philology and philosophy at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel.
Born 1960 in Eckernförde. Lives and works in Berlin.
